Kyle Road Rooms This facility was earmarked for closure a
number of years ago. The YMCA who has served the Kildrum
community in the neighbouring building since 1960 declared an
interest in the rooms as far back as 1998. Only two groups used
the rooms from 1998 - 2006, namely the YMCA and Kildrum
Senior Citizens. The Kildrum Senior Citizens group was given
notice to quit in August 2006 in preparation for the centre
closure. The YMCA felt it was well placed to secure the
facilities for community use and programme expansion and to this
end continued discussions with NLC with the full support of
Kildrum Senior Citizens who relocated to Kildrum YMCA Learning
Centre
NLC recently
commissioned an independent consultant to investigate the way
forward. His report has now been submitted and clearly indicates
the YMCA as the preferred partner. We are very hopeful that the
council will accept and approve the recommendation of the
independent consultants report. Our aim was and remains to
expand facilities to establish new and sustainable programmes
and services based on our survey responses from Kildrum
residents and local needs as identified by the community
learning plan.
Kildrum Learning Plan
is progressing well. The local survey is currently being
analysed and programmes will be developed base on local resident
responses.
